Jeroen has made the pupils enthousiastic for this Brazilian dance and surprised them with new moves.
After the workshop they went dancing in Central Park! This was a unique situation in New York:
a workshop Zouk by a Dutch zouk dancer coupled with dancing in Central Park.

Carnaval is niet alleen maar boerenkielen en alááf. In de Amsterdamse Crea vond zaterdagavond 17 februari 2007 een tropische variant plaats: de Tropical Masquerade. De Vereniging Surinaamse Studenten Amsterdam (VSSA) en SambaCats zorgden voor een Caribisch tintje in het oer-Hollandse carnavalsweekend,
waarbij het adembenemende en met daverend applaus ontvangen Sambaoptreden van de bloedmooie en sensuele Braziliaanse danseres Eliza van SambaCats het eigenlijke hoogtepunt van het feest werd.
SambaCats heeft met dit carnavalsfeest de media gehaald.
SALSA LESSONS AT THE ALOYSIUS COLLEGE, THE HAGUE!!
SambaCats has been hired by the Aloysius College in The Hague to give some 60 youngest students a Salsa dance course, starting September 8 2006,
for which they can score. This is done within a project about healthy nutrition and motion, in which things are learned that are normally not given at school.
The Salsa lessons has been such a great succes, that
SambaCats has been invited to give also the older studentes a Salsa dance course under the direction of Ian Onvlee, starting September 29 2006.
In the mean time the enthousiasm has risen and preparations are already made to let another groep of pupils to get Dalsa lessons, so that the number of pupils that gets instructed by SambaCats will possibly go beyond 100.
The purpose is that the pupils will show their skill by way of a group show, that Ian has specially choreographed for them. The spraks are flying already during the lessons.
SambaCats was chosen out of 11 best danceschools in the region to fulfil this great task! The contentment of the school management is beyond description.

Buikdans is niet alleen voor vrouwen. Er is ook een stoere mannenpas.
De nationale kampioen buikdansen in Turkije schijnt een man te zijn, en menige man is buikdansleraar. Dus heren: laat zien wat je kan! Buikdansen is in.

Chinese mannen gaan buikdansen
Het zal niet de fraaiste aanblik ter wereld zijn, maar buikdansen voor mannen die hun bierbuik en andere ongewenste
uitstulpingen willen bestrijden, gaat een groot succes worden in China. China Daily wist een
volgend citaat te vermelden.
"Teveel zakendiners en niet genoeg lichaamsbeweging bezorgden me
een bierbuik. Toen maakte ik kennis met buikdansen. Tot mijn verbazing hielp dit me om vet
kwijt te raken en om de spanning op mijn werk te verminderen", zei een 38 jarig afdelingshoofd
van een bedrijf in Beijing, die al drie maanden met buikdansen bezig was.
Er zijn meer jonge en
middelbare mannen, vooral die met witte boorden baantjes, en studenten in andere grote steden
die zich opgeven voor buikdans les. Zij willen de verleidelijke bewegingen van deze kunstvorm
uit het Midden Oosten, die gewoonlijk door vrouwen wordt beoefend, onder de knie krijgen.
Mannen met witte boordjes vinden de buikdans leuker dan trainen met apparaten en push ups,
omdat dit laatste saai en droog is, vertelde Zhong Hui, een buikdans leraar in Beijing aan de
krant. Het verslag zegt dat vrouwen zich in eerste instantie aanmeldden bij deze buikdans
clubs, maar mannen kwamen ook in de rij staan toen ze ontdekten dat deze kunstvorm helpt om af
te vallen en dat hij bovendien ontspannend is.

Successful performance of the First Dance at the wedding of Eric en Philippa in Italy!
The choreography that Ian Onvlee has specially wrote for the First Dance of Eric en Philippa on their music of choice, the debute single "Like Someone in Love" of
Icelands popgroup Björk, has been a great success! The dance Ian inspired on the lovestory of the two, while taking into account that the two lovebirds have never danced before and that dancing on the debute single of Björk is even for professionals a difficult task!
The performnce was done in Italy in the open air, on gravel (instead of grass, which was expected). Their trainingvideo can already be seen and downloaden at Sambacats.nl.
They are surely a very nice couple, and we wish them much happiness in this life together, and an everlasting nice memory of their exclusive First Dance in the romantic Italy.

Hello Ian,
Thanks for this. The wedding was amazing. We had such great fun. Pip was very beautiful.
I am sending you a part of the first dance that a friend filmed for us. I think that it is all he has
since his camera was full. Will know more soon. I also have another friend who filmed a part of it
and will send it to me in a month probably (from Australia). So in a couple of months I will
probably have a montage with the whole thing that I can send you for your archives.
The dance was a HUGE success. People kept talking about it, how complicated, original, and
beautiful it was. It was also the best version of the dance that we did timing wise
(all the parts felt exactly with the music). The only problem was the dress; you will understand!
So it was hard to make the full movements. We also dance on gravel. But no one noticed these complications.
